*** Effective July 1, 2024, as per Colorado revised statute 18-12-105.3, it is unlawful for anyone, including concealed handgun permit holders, to carry a firearm in the Adams County Government Center.

Any violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor and subjects an individual to arrest.

 

*** Per Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-202(5)(b), "...a 'handgun training class' does not include any firearms safety course that allows a person to complete the entire course (i) via the internet or an electronic device." Please call to verify if you believe the course you completed is prohibited: (303) 655-3210.

At the time of your appointment, your application will be reviewed for completeness, signed, your picture taken, fees collected, and your fingerprints will be taken.

JAIL DIVISION

The Jail Division is responsible for providing a safe and humane environment for persons incarcerated at the Adams County Detention Facility. Jail personnel manage the movement, behavior and transportation of inmates.

The division consists of the following sections and units: Booking, Court Security, Civil Unit, Detectives, Transport, Bonding, Court Services, Programs, Jail Records, Supervised Release and Technical Services.

PATROL DIVISION

The Patrol Division provides law enforcement services, community policing, and traffic safety to the communities of unincorporated Adams County.

Tactical sections and units include Patrol, Plains, Traffic Safety Unit, DUI Enforcement, Motorcycle Unit, Juvenile Services Unit, SWAT, Mobile Field Force, K-9 Unit, Bomb Unit, Mounted Posse, Reserve Deputies and the Community Resource Team.

PURPOSE OF THE ACADEMY

The Adams County Sheriff's Office POST Academy exists not only for the law enforcement community and the candidates, but citizens throughout Colorado who will benefit from what is taught and learned here. The Sheriff believes that it is imperative to create a positive experience which will instill in each candidate honesty, integrity, and professionalism. It is our hope and desire to make each candidate's career with the Adams County Sheriff's Office a successful one. The Adams County Sheriff's Office POST Academy is committed to providing the best and most updated training available.


ACADEMY PROGRAM

​The ACSO POST Academy is a 21-22 week program which is designed to prepare graduates for a career in law enforcement.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Academy trains cadets from multiple state agencies. Cadets, who successfully graduate, move on to work as police officers, deputy sheriffs, fire and rescue personnel, CBI agents, and state gaming agents throughout Colorado. Qualified instructors teach the academy curriculum, which covers all State of Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements. To graduate, cadets must pass all POST certification tests.

VICTIM SERVICES UNIT

The Victim Services Unit (VSU) is a volunteer based program serving unincorporated Adams County. The VSU operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide on-scene crisis intervention to victims and families of criminal and critical incidents.

We would like to assist you, and/or your family, with any of the following:

  • Understanding your rights as they pertain to the Victims’ Rights Act (VRA)

  • Assisting you, and/or your family, with concerns about safety and security immediately following a criminal incident

  • Answering questions about the criminal justice process and what will likely happen next

  • How to seek financial compensation and the eligibility requirements for expenses incurred as a result of a crime defined in the VRA

  • To help contact family, friends, employers on your behalf when the words are too difficult to say

  • Explaining the emotional burden you may experience as a result of the incident

  • Assisting you with a long term safety plan that could help you and/or your family remain safe

  • Determining which local resources will ensure that your household remains functional

  • Leaving informational material to help answer questions that may develop along the way

Standards

Individuals applying for employment with Adams County Sheriff's Office must go through a thorough pre-employment selection process. The Adams County Sheriff's Office maintains high standards to effectively serve our community. All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED unless specifically notated in the job description. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age (21 year of age by academy graduation for Cadet / Deputy positions). Common Disqualifying Circumstances

  • Dishonorable discharge from any US or foreign military force.

  • Drug use in the last 5 years (marijuana excluded).
