Sheriff Gene R. Claps Sheriff Claps was sworn into office on January 10, 2023, and has volunteered and worked for the Adams County Sheriff's Office for over 25 years since 1995. Sheriff Claps has worked in almost every division, including the Jail, Patrol, Detective, and training units. Sheriff Claps has been a reserve posse deputy, a deputy, a Sergeant, Commander, Captain, and Division Chief during his career. Sheriff Claps was born and raised in Adams County and is very proud of Adams County and the Adams County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Claps aims to transform this Sheriff's Office into a metropolitan leader in law enforcement. To work from our mission, vision, and values with defined direction, support, and leadership to help guide and mentor our staff for the future years to come. Professional Standards Division Chief Mike McKinney Division Chief McKinney has worked for the Adams County Sheriff's Office for 23 years, serving 12 of those years on the SWAT Team. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command and the Metro North Leadership Program. Chief McKinney has worked in a variety of divisions throughout his career. He believes in servant leadership and helping others achieve their career goals. He has a passion for Community Policing and the partnerships proactive efforts foster with the community we serve. |

Patrol Division Chief John Bungartz Division Chief Bungartz began his law enforcement career with the Adams County Sheriff's Office in August 1986. During his 37 years of service, he has worked in every division, with the bulk of his career (28 years) in the Patrol Division. Now, as the Division Chief of Patrol, he is dedicated to sharing his experience and knowledge with new deputies, recruits, and cadets. |

Detective Division Chief Kevin Currier Division Chief Kevin Currier began his service with the Sheriff's Office in March of 1995. He has worked in the detective division since 2006 as a Detective, Sergeant, Commander, and Critical Incident Team Coordinator and now as the Division Chief. He is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. The Detective Division is responsible for the preparation of and filing of criminal complaints as well as processing all crime scenes, housing all evidence, and providing services and information to victims of crime. We will serve all that we encounter with professionalism, dedication, and compassion. |

Jail Division Chief Bill Dunning Division Chief Bill Dunning started with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 and left for a successful private sector career before rejoining the Adams County Sheriff’s Office in 2019. Chief Dunning has worked in the Jail, Patrol and Professional Standards Divisions and has been a Division Chief for six years with time spent in the Professional Standards Division and the Jail Division at that rank. Chief Dunning has over 16 years of professional law enforcement experience and has dedicated most of his career to public service in paid and volunteer positions. Chief Dunning is a strong supporter of integrity, fairness, and collaboration and works closely with his team to improve jail operations. |

Training Division Chief Shane Heiter Division Chief Heiter has been with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office since 2002. During this time, he has demonstrated his passion for innovation and forward-thinking. He is a graduate of Northwestern University School for Police Staffing and Command. After serving 18 years in the Detective Division, Chief Heiter has taken on the responsibility of developing the FLATROCK Regional Training Center into the apotheosis of first responder training and education. |

BOOKING FEE CHARGES
Inmates are assessed a $30 booking fee that is collected upon their arrest. Any monies put into an inmate's account will automatically have the booking fee deducted.
CALLING ACCOUNT
The telephone system available to the inmates is owned and operated by an independent company, HomeWAV. All calls (local and long distance) are collect calls and will be billed to the party accepting the call. Charges differ according to the area being called. To set up an account to allow inmates to call only you please visit homewav.com or via the mobile app on iPhone or Android device.

Video Visitation via HomeWAV
HomeWAV is the Adams County Detention Facility’s approved remote video visitation system. Friends and family can create an account at homewav.com or by downloading the HomeWAV mobile app (available on iOS and Android).
Once funds are added, inmates may initiate video calls. Calls cost $0.20 per minute, with a 30-minute maximum.
Most attorney visits occur in person, but HomeWAV is available for legal use as needed.
Important: On-site social visitation (friends and family) is currently not offered. This does not apply to professional visits.

The ACSO POST Academy is a 21-22 week program which is designed to prepare graduates for a career in law enforcement.
The Adams County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Academy trains cadets from multiple state agencies. Cadets, who successfully graduate, move on to work as police officers, deputy sheriffs, fire and rescue personnel, CBI agents, and state gaming agents throughout Colorado. Qualified instructors teach the academy curriculum, which covers all State of Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements. To graduate, cadets must pass all POST certification tests.
Candidates who are selected to attend the Academy will be offered employment in a cadet position and receive a monthly salary, tuition and benefits. The candidate will be required to sign a training agreement committing to two continuous years of employment with the Adams County Sheriff's Office.
Each Academy Instructor will demand integrity and accountability from each candidate, and the Academy's regimented atmosphere will set a tone of professionalism that each candidate is expected to adhere to.
Candidates must pass a POST certification test and all three skill disciplines in order to graduate. Classes are taught by qualified instructors. Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to:
